EducationPh.D. in Chemistry at UCSC in 2013, B.A. in Chemistry with Honors (Magna Cum Laude) at Whitman College in 2006
ExperienceI have been a science tutor for over 9 years. I have taught both undergraduates and high school students. I also spent three years as a teaching assistant at UC Santa Cruz, where I was selected as the 'Outstanding Teaching Assistant of the Year' in 2011.
I love chemistry, and I know what a challenging subject it can be. I aim to make chemistry more accessible for my students through worksheets, acronyms for aiding memorization, and example exams I've accumulated through years of tutoring.
HobbiesI love to ride bikes and work on art projects. I am always trying to get more people to write letters because everyone loves getting mail!

I have to say I'm a little hurt or disappointed by Kelly because she tutored me a couple of times, and I said maybe the weekend would be good to meet again. She told me it was no problem, and we could arrange it later. I didn't end up setting up a session for that weekend, though, because I realized I was too far behind in my class to get enough out of the sessions. A week later, when I was more caught up but still doing poorly in the class, I contacted her again to ask if she were still available. I explained to her that I was very worried about how I was doing, but I didn't hear back from her, so I wrote to her again the next day. Still no reply. Now I see here that she has raised her rate to $50/hr from $35/hr. So I imagine the reason she didn't reply to my emails is that she no longer wanted to adhere to the $35/hr rate she was offering when we started a few weeks ago. I guess that's her prerogative, but I really feel the kind and responsible thing to do, especially for a struggling student, would have been at least to reply to my emails and explain the situation to me.
Kelly was a fantastic, happy tutor. She went out of her way to make times to meet and was able to teach chemistry in a way that is easily understood. She was able to tutor me for two chemistry classes at UC Santa Cruz, while she was working on her ph. D. I would greatly recommend her and her skills in chemistry.
