Sarah M.
Private tutor in Oakland, CA
Education
University of Washington, 2012 - BA French; BA Linguistics In 2012, I graduated cum laude with a B.A. in both Linguistics and French from the University of Washington. I spent the 2010-2011 school year at the Université de Nantes in Nantes, France where I followed a rigorous French-language curriculum in Sciences du langage and Lettres modernes.
Experience
As a university student, I volunteered with the nonprofit organization, Jumpstart, to work one-on-one with preschool students on reading, learning, and English language skills. Also during my UW career, I served as a “tutor-mentor” to several University of Washington students, tutoring in a variety of academic materials (including ESL) as well as mentoring in study skills. Post-graduation, I spent 2012-2013 teaching English to more than two hundred French secondary school students (ages 11 to 18) in Nontron, France, designing intermediate and advanced level lessons in pronunciation, culture and verbal expression. I also gave private lessons to English learners in the community, tutoring ages 5 to 35. State-side since mid-2013, I have worked in higher education in Seattle, reserving my free-time for tutoring French in the community. I have helped my students prepare (and succeed!) at the SAT, AP French exam, and TEF Canada (Test d'Evaluation de Français pour le Canada). Now, back in the San Francisco Bay Area, I am looking forward to getting to work with more French-language learners! A bientôt!
