Experience
I, Steven Reaves, am highly experienced and passionate about supporting young people. I graduated from one of the top private universities in California, the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. I am an expert in the field of Special Education, one-to-one instruction, individualized education plans, and differentiated learning to meet the individual needs of all students. I have been teaching for over 16 years. I am presently a full-time special educator, educational specialist and co-teacher in a Bay Area high school. Throughout my professional school career, I thrived to work with the whole student, addressing content area, executive functioning, learning differences, and motivation. As a special educator, I created a multitude of individualized education plans for many students. In creating these plans, I focused on assessing each student’s strengths and weaknesses and providing relevant and positive supports. Within these plans, goals are created to address the following areas: cognitive, social, and emotional. I have experience with bringing effective strategies into the homes of these families as well. As a case carrier, mentor, and educator for my students, I also led and facilitated IEP meetings, engaging parents in the process of supporting their child’s learning needs. Furthermore, I communicated with parents regarding academic and social/emotional progress on a regular basis. Moreover, I make referrals to community services which may benefit the student in reaching his/her academic goals and the parents in better supporting their child. As an educator, I always strive to go the extra mile to connect with all my students and to create respectful and productive students with them! I am a lifelong learner who takes pride in his work. Therefore, I strive to be a part of a community of lifelong learners who also take pride in their work!!!
