Experience

I have previously taught and worked in several different positions for Oakland Unified School District, mostly in elementary schools. I have been a full-time classroom teacher for first grade, fifth grade, and middle school. Throughout my work history, I have worked with students of all ages, races, and backgrounds. I hold high academic expectations for all of my students while also providing the differentiation and scaffolding needed for all learners to succeed. I have worked with many different types of learners, English Language Learners, students with learning disabilities, students with emotional and behavioral struggles, and students performing at all levels of the academic spectrum. I think about educational practices in ways that allow me to apply traditional concepts in non-traditional ways in order to reach students that some adults may claim to be unreachable. I believe that all students can be motivated and interested in learning when the material is presented in an appropriate way and when a solid relationship is built with the person providing the teaching (tutor or teacher).

I have a lot of interests outside of working with kids. I enjoy outdoor activities, such as running, biking, walks, and hiking. I participate in indoor rock -climbing. I grew up playing soccer and basketball for many years. I love many types of music. I play the piano for my own enjoyment. I am also into different forms of art.
