Experience

I have 10 years of experience as a tutor, teacher, and professional writer. I've taught undergraduate composition and literature classes at Stanford University, and tutored in reading, writing, literature, test preparation, English as a Second Language, and college and graduate admission essay writing at Stanford and several well-respected tutoring companies. I've worked with individuals in middle school, high school, college, and graduate and professional school, as well as adult learners. Additionally, I have written ACT and SAT verbal and reading comprehension questions for a test preparation company. For two years, I worked as a professional grant writer for a nonprofit organization. My test scores include perfect scores of 5 on the AP Language and Composition and GRE writing exams, and scores in the highest percentile on both the GRE verbal and GRE Subject Test in English Literature.

Hobbies

Some of my favorite hobbies are running, hiking, baking, and horseback riding. I also love to read poetry, learn languages, and volunteer with local youth-focused organizations. I am a patient teacher and am passionate about sharing my love of the written word with individuals of all ages. I come from a family of educators, and in this sense was "born to teach!" Whether tutoring in grammar, Shakespeare, or SAT preparation, my priority is to excite students about learning by making the material relevant and engaging. I spend time personalizing each lesson and learning about my students' interests in order to accomplish this.
