Private tutor in Oakland, CA
Education
PhD in English Literature from U.C. Berkeley, 2015
Experience
I taught college writing for 6 years (while in grad school) and recently taught middle school students how to read and analyze poetry. I enjoy showing students how to "close-read" literature and how to develop their ideas and observations into an expository essay. The practice of close-reading involves learning to "scan" lines of poetry as wells as discussing the novel at the level of the form. These are all indispensable tools when it comes to reading and writing at the college level and to think critically about the world beyond. My "favorite" writer is Virginia Woolf. My dissertation ranges from her interest in Marx's theories of free labor to Einstein's theories of relativity.

Hobbies
I like going on adventures into the city to find new, but cheap, places to eat yummy food. Being physically active is important to me so I enjoy running in the Berkeley hills and playing soccer. I'm always up for a good game of Scrabble or a deep conversation about what it means to be "present."
