I earned my B.A from Stanford University in Linguistics with honors. Subsequently, I received my Bilingual CA Teaching Credential at UC Berkeley, and currently I am a Master’s Candidate in Educational Therapy at Holy Names University. I also hold a license in Stress-relief and ADHD/Anxiety intervention from the Institute of HeartMath in Boulder Creek, California. I am trained in Critical Reading and Writing from Columbia Teachers College Reading and Writing Workshop. My Dyslexia/Orton-Gillingham studies comes from the Reading and Language Arts Center (RLAC, Soon to be Brainspring) in Michigan. RLAC is accredited by the International Dyslexia Association and holds the rigorous accreditation from the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council. In addition, I hold a certificate for working with Gifted and Talented Education Students. I believe in the power of a growth-mindset and the research that shows that intelligence is not fixed. I am a former 20-year, CA Bilingual Credentialed Teacher who has tutored and coached students throughout the East Bay for the last 10 years and who was recognized by the Berkeley Public Education Fund as Distinguished Educator of the Year in 2010 for work in literacy in the area. Hobbies
In my free time I train as a classical tenor in order to do recitals and perform in the Baroque scene of the Bay Area. I also sing positive inspirational/spiritual music and play jazz piano. Curiosity constantly feeds my mind, body, and spirit as a lifelong reader/writer. Meditation and exercise keep me going also. I live near Lake Merritt and walk around it most days. Hiking in awe-invoking nature is a great pastime that is healing for me. Life's simple pleasures are the cornerstone of my happiness. So, I especially enjoy spend time (one-on-one often) with friends and family, although gatherings are also quite rewarding.
